Role

RN (Registered Nurse) for a float pool assignment covering MedSurg/tele and stepdown.

Required Qualifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• RN license

Assignment Details

• Floats between MS units, Step-down, IRU (Rehab), and ED holding
• MedSurg floating is limited to other MedSurg units
• Stepdown floating could include ICU as helping hands
• Nights, 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week

Unit Information

• MedSurg units: 1W MedSurg and 2E MedSurg
• Stepdown unit: 3W Stepdown
• MedSurg beds: 28 beds on 1W and 29 beds on 2E, both private
• Stepdown beds: 28 private beds

Clinical Expectations

• MedSurg patients may include remote tele patients
• Stepdown nurses must be able to read and interpret strips
• Stepdown nurses must be able to titrate Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Heparin
• MedSurg patients may include post-surgical, ortho, pneumonia, dialysis, palliative care, hospice, end-of-life, chemo, and COVID patients
• Stepdown patients are described as heavy cardiac, including dysrhythmias and CVAs

Schedule / Operations

• MedSurg: self-scheduling and blocked schedules are allowed if unit needs are met
• MedSurg weekends: every other weekend, with 2 Fridays per schedule
• Stepdown weekends: every other weekend
• MedSurg holidays: work into the perm staff holiday rotation
• Stepdown holidays: every other holiday
• MedSurg orientation: 1 shift with a preceptor
• Stepdown orientation: 2 shifts with a preceptor

Additional Notes

• Navy blue scrubs; jackets, if worn, must also be navy blue
• MedSurg has no monitors on the unit; tele patients are monitored remotely
• Stepdown has tele monitors
• MedSurg has no CNA coverage on nights
• Stepdown has no CNA after 11p on nights
