Role

Float Pool RN needed to float between MedSurg/Tele and Stepdown.

Required Qualifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• RN license

Unit Details

• Float scope includes MS units, Step-down, IRU (Rehab), and ED holding.
• MedSurg units: 1W MedSurg and 2E MedSurg.
• Stepdown unit: 3W Stepdown.
• MedSurg floating is only to other MedSurg units.
• Stepdown nurses may float to ICU as helping hands.
• MedSurg patients may include remote tele patients, but there are no monitors on the unit.
• Stepdown has tele monitors and nurses must be able to read and interpret strips.
• Stepdown is heavy cardiac and may receive patients downgraded from the ICU.
• MedSurg orientation is 1 shift with a preceptor.
• Stepdown orientation is 2 shifts with a preceptor.

Schedule

• 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Days
• Every other weekend
• Every other holiday

Clinical Notes

• MedSurg patients may include post-surgical, ortho, pneumonia, dialysis, palliative care, hospice, end-of-life, and low-volume inpatient chemo.
• Stepdown patients may require titration of Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Heparin.
• Stepdown also sees dysrhythmias and CVAs.
• MedSurg may include Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow managed by RT.
• Stepdown may include Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow.
