Role Overview

• Surgical ICU RN in a 13-bed SICU
• 12-hour nights, 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• Active IL license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• BLS
• ACLS
• Level I trauma experience
• ICU experience

Unit Details

• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2, with occasional 1:1 or 1:3 assignments
• Common patient types include post surgical, open abdomens, multi system trauma, and endovascular cases
• RNs are required to titrate drips
• Common drips include pressors, sedation, paralytics, and insulin
• Charge nurse support is available as staffing allows, and a house supervisor is on site 24/7
• Nurse aids/patient care techs are present at a 1:10 ratio
• Intensivist coverage is in house approximately 0700-1900, with tele medicine intensivist support and an attending on call
• RT is in the ICU 24/7
• RT equipment includes vents, CPAP, and Bipap
• Tele/monitor techs are on the unit, and nurses are responsible for reading and interpreting strips

Scheduling

• Weekend requirement: 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week period
• Holiday requirement: every other holiday
• No call or standby requirement

Floating

• May float to lower levels of care and would take a full team
• Float assignments may include 3 patients on a Stepdown unit or 5-6 patients in the general med environment

Orientation

• 12 hours of non-billable orientation
• Unit-specific orientation includes EPIC training, educator time, shadowing, and preceptor time on the unit

Submission Requirements

• Last four digits of SSN
• Middle initial
• Requested time off

Additional Notes

• Local placements within a 50-mile radius are accepted
• Local rate adjustment applies to clinicians with permanent addresses within 50 miles
• Candidate must produce a negative drug screen for all panels
• No specific scrub colors are required
