ICU RN

Overview

• 13-week contract in Hastings, Nebraska
• 12-hour day shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Department: ICU
• 10 private beds
• ICU and PCU are on the same floor

Required Qualifications

• RN
• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• 1 year of experience, as long as there is experience with vents
• Experience with vents, art lines, PICC lines, ports, chest tubes, drains, wounds, ostomies, OG, NG, PPE, identifying arrhythmias, cardioversions, TEEs, post heart cath patients, defibrillator, and pain management
• Ability to titrate drips

Schedule

• 12-hour shifts, 7-7
• No self-scheduling
• Block scheduling may be accommodated as much as possible
• Travelers fill in gaps of the first schedule
• Generally every 3rd weekend, with flexibility requested
• Every 3rd holiday, including one of the winter holidays

Float / Unit Coverage

• Floats to PCU and occasionally MedSurg
• Full patient assignment when floating to MedSurg, with a ratio of 1:5-6

Unit Support

• At least 2 ICU RNs on shift
• Charge nurse takes patients
• House supervisor available in house
• Nurse aides on the unit
• Hospitalist in house 24/7
• Intensivist available during the day
• RT in house 24/7, but not specifically in ICU
• Tele techs on the unit; RNs read their own strips

Additional Details

• Common patient types include DKA, COVID, CHF, MVA, CVA, Sepsis, overdose, and general medical
• Very rare pediatric patients; pediatric RNs take them unless the pediatric patient is vented, in which case an ICU RN runs the vent
• Common drips include insulin, levo, cardizem, dopamine, dobutamine, TPA, heparin, amio, lasix, and sedation drips
• No call or standby requirement
• Any solid color scrubs, no designs
• Natural color hair
• Orientation includes 2 days of department nursing orientation and 1 shift on the floor
