NICU RN
Overview
- Location: Peoria, Illinois
- Contract length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 12-hour days
- Hours per week: 36
- Local placements accepted: Yes, within 50 miles
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
- BLS
- NRP
- Negative drug screen required for all panels
- Submission must include the last four digits of the clinician’s SSN, middle initial, and requested time off
Preferred Qualifications
- Level 3/4 ICU experience
- Micro preemie care experience
Unit Details
- Level 3 NICU
- 60 total private rooms, with capability to expand to 65 patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: NICU 1:1-3; NIC 1:3-4
- Common patient population includes 22 weeks and up, abdominal defects, pre-cardiac repair, PPHN, CDH, and other genetic defects
Clinical Expectations
- Titrate drips per orders
- Common drips include Fentanyl, Morphine, and Precedex
- Patients are monitored, but the unit does not use Tele
- Respiratory equipment includes conventional vents, oscillator ventilator, JET ventilator, CPAP, Nasal IMV, Heated High Flow, and Tracheostomy
Staffing and Support
- Charge RN in NICU and NIC; charge nurse takes assignments only if staffing gaps
- Free transport RN available 24/7
- House supervisor available 24/7
- PCTs are used
- Neonatologist in house 24/7, with 2-3 APNs 24/7 and resident/fellow coverage
Schedule and Operations
- Self-scheduling allowed
- Block scheduling allowed
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend for dayshift
- Holiday coverage required as needed
- No current call requirement
- Travelers are first to float
- Float scope includes PICU, PIC, Peds, Nursery, sitter, BHM, and adult world
Orientation and Dress Code
- 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation
- No specific scrub color requirement
- No fake nails, nail polish, jewelry, or watches
