Stepdown RN

Overview

• Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
• Unit: 8 North East (8NE), a 24-bed step-down unit
• Shift: Nights, 12 hours
• Hours per week: 36
• Contract length: 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

• RN license
• BLS
• ACLS
• Strong assessment skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to titrate drips
• Basic EKG interpretation

Unit Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3
• The unit cares for trauma and general med/surg patients
• The unit is part of a Level 1 trauma center
• Patients include brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, traumatic fractures, complex trauma, respiratory-compromised patients, reconstructive plastic surgery with microvascular free flaps, advanced diabetic management, general surgical interventions, and complex wound management
• The unit provides 24-hour hemodynamic monitoring
• Telemetry is monitored on all beds, with tele techs reading strips
• RN support includes nurse aides and charge nurse/house supervisor coverage
• Respiratory equipment includes BiPap, Cpap, and chronic vents

Schedule

• Week nights and weekends
• Weekend requirement may be every other weekend depending on staffing
• Holiday coverage is required on a rotational basis
• No call requirement

Floating

• Floating occurs on a rotational basis with other staff on the unit

Additional Submission Requirements

• Only one submission at a time across the WVU system
• Driver’s license address must be outside 50 miles from the facility
• Previous permanent candidates must have been gone for 2 years
• Previous travelers who completed 1 full year there must have been gone for 2 years
• A current, unexpired copy of the candidate’s driver’s license must be included
• Travel teams must be submitted together in one email
• Up to 2 candidates may be submitted per opening
