Description
Adult Cardiac Intensive Care Unit RN
Overview
- 20-bed unit, all private and all monitored
- 12-hour night shifts
- 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend
- Every other holiday
- Float to every level of care
- Travelers are expected to take a full team
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- CVICU (2 years of experience)
- CVICU experience within the last year
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- Experience with swan-ganz catheters
- Experience with central line management
- Experience with arterial lines
- Experience with temporary pacemakers
- Experience with intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP)
Preferred Qualifications
- ACLS
- CCRN
- More than 3-5 years of CVICU experience
- Experience with immediate post-op patients
- Experience with VAD and transplant patients
Clinical Setting
- Patient population includes post open heart surgical patients, CABG, valves, CABG/Valve, dissections, AAA, vascular procedures, carotids, post cardiovascular procedures, STEMI, unstable angina, unstable N-STEMI, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, targeted temperature management, transcutaneous pacing, transvenous pacing, severe heart failure, TAVRs, cardiac-related events requiring ICU care, ventilated patients, overflow patients from other ICUs, and COVID patients
- Soon to come: post VAD placement and post heart transplant patients
- Specialty equipment includes IABPs, Impellas, Swan Ganz, ECMO, external pacemakers, and CRRT
- Uses PICC, midlines, CVC, Swans, and arterial lines
- Ventilator support includes CPAP, BPAP, heated high flow, and nitric oxide
- Philips monitoring is used
- Charge nurses are present 24/7 and may take teams
- House supervisor is present 24/7
- PCTs are available
- Respiratory therapists are available 24/7
- CV APNs/PAs and CCS APNs/PAs are available most of the time, with providers on call
- Common drips include dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, epi, neo, vasopressin, cleviprex, propofol, fentanyl, versed, insulin, heparin, and esmolol

- Scrubs are not provided
- Dress must be appropriate and clean
- Negative drug screen required for all panels
