Registered Nurse - PACU

• Shift: Mon - Fri, 3pm-11:30pm
• Unit: PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit)

Role Overview

• Performs perioperative nursing in pre-anesthesia, Phase I, and Phase II post-anesthesia care.
• Monitors patients receiving local-only procedures in the OR and may administer conscious sedation if certified.
• Assists anesthesia with nerve blocks as needed.
• Completes pre- and postoperative assessments, admissions, IV access, medication administration, and patient education.
• Uses the Aldrete scoring system in the PACU.
• Directs and supervises assigned personnel and acts as patient advocate.
• Will be on call for the Post-Anesthesia Unit on a regular scheduled rotation.
• Agency nurses may be floated to other departments where they are qualified before core staff are floated.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Oregon
• Associate of Science in Nursing (Associate Degree in Nursing)
• Three years of PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care) experience, with PACU experience within the last year
• Medical-surgical experience
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
• Familiarity with art lines
• Familiarity with Space Labs
• Familiarity with bladder scanner
• Familiarity with Belmont rapid infuser

Physical Requirements

• Lift up to 50 pounds independently
• Frequent pushing, pulling, carrying, or repositioning of objects or patients up to 25 pounds
• Occasional lifting or transferring of individuals over 100 pounds with mechanical aids or team assistance
• Continuous walking and standing throughout the shift
• Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
• Ability to sit for long periods

Working Conditions

• Primarily indoor healthcare setting with variable indoor temperatures
• Frequent exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous materials, and medical equipment; PPE required
• Fast-paced, unpredictable environment with high-pressure or emergency situations and varying noise levels
