RN (Registered Nurse): Med-Surg Oncology

Location: Boise, Idaho Contract length: 13 weeks Shift: Days, 7a-7p, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week Weekends: Required as needed to fill staffing gaps Holidays: Required to rotate into the holiday schedule Call or standby: Not required

Unit Details

• Unit: Med-Surg Oncology, Floor 4
• Beds: 24
• Nurse:patient ratio: 1:3-4
• Nurse aide ratio: 1:8
• Common patients: BMT, oncology, GYN oncology surgeries, hospice, med/surg
• Higher-acuity patients: The unit takes some higher-acuity patients than general med-surg units.
• Respiratory equipment: CPAP, High Flow
• Titrating drips: Not required of RNs
• Common drips: Pain medication drips and PCAs
• Charge nurse: A charge nurse is staffed on the floor each shift and does not take patients.
• Telemetry techs: Present on the unit. They must respond appropriately to life-threatening rhythms.
• Scheduling: Set at the management level. Nights are blocked together when possible, and travelers are asked to be flexible.
• Orientation: 2 days on the unit with a preceptor
• Scrubs: Any color, no hoods
• Team culture: The unit emphasizes teamwork.

Required Qualifications

• BLS certification
• At least 2 years of nursing experience (applies to all candidates)
• Chemo certification, needed to administer chemotherapy
• The source header states "requires BMT or Chemo experience." Elsewhere, the source prefers oncology or BMT experience and accepts general med-surg travelers with 2 years of experience.
• Must complete a radius check: submit permanent address to confirm the candidate lives outside the facility's 50-mile radius before profile review

Preferred Qualifications

• Recent experience with GYN, ortho, bariatric, and post-op patients
• Oncology and/or BMT experience
• Oncology and chemo certifications

Float and Assignment Scope

• Travelers are the first to float.
• Float to other med-surg units and sister facilities in the system.
• Float to L&D/Mother Baby in the primary skill set, or work as a sitter.
