Description
As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a vital role in assisting surgical teams during procedures by maintaining a sterile environment and providing necessary instrumentation. You will engage in activities that support quality patient care and work under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.
Essential Job Functions
- Demonstrate expertise in sterile and aseptic techniques, applying knowledge of human anatomy and surgical procedures to assist in invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
- Ensure all surgical items are properly packaged, processed, and sterile, confirming the integrity of packaging, moisture, seals, and expiration dates to maximize patient safety.
- Monitor the sterile field, identifying any potential contamination risks and taking corrective action as needed.
- Develop competency in Tier 1 surgical cases to enhance support to the surgical team.
- Maintain flexibility in providing individualized care, adjusting to the dynamic needs of the surgical environment.
- Communicate effectively with the perioperative team, participating in the Time Out process, including briefings and debriefings.
- Assist with patient transport, room turnover, and room preparation to ensure seamless surgical operations.
- Exhibit professionalism by staying current with new technologies and instrumentation relevant to surgical procedures.
- Assist in cleaning and preparing instruments for terminal sterilization post-procedure.
- Model principles of a Just Culture, fostering an environment of accountability and learning.
- Perform other duties as assigned while adhering to HIPAA compliance.
Qualifications
- Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or Licensed Surgical Technologist.
- Licensure as a Surgical Technologist in the state of Colorado is required.
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- Proficiency in computer skills to complete online learning requirements and access necessary forms and policies.
- Strong command of the English language for effective communication.
Physical Demands
This role requires a combination of physical activity including standing, walking, and the ability to lift up to 20 pounds regularly. Potential hazards present in the healthcare environment include radiation and biological hazards. A safety management program is in place to address these issues.

Performs necessary functions for all age groups, including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

The role necessitates the ability to perform job functions promptly and reliably, as well as to work independently and collaboratively under stress. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential to enhance the patient care experience.
