Experience Requirements

A minimum of 3 years of experience in a critical care setting is required.

Certifications and Requirements

• Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
• Valid Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association
• Valid professional license within the state of practice or nurse licensure compact
• Additional requirements for a compact license:
  • Verification of suicide training
  • Verification of demographic data via Nursys e-Notify
• Proof of right to work in the United States

Position Responsibilities

Critical Care Nurses (ICU/CCU) provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients using the application of scientific nursing principles. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Consulting and coordinating with the health care team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans
• Preparing and administering medications as prescribed and recording their administration, while reporting adverse reactions per nursing policy
• Giving basic bedside care to patients
• Initiating patient education plans as prescribed, including post-treatment care needs, diet and nutrition, exercise programs, self-administration of medication, and rehabilitation
• Recording patients' medical information and vital signs
• Ordering, interpreting, and evaluating diagnostic tests to assess patient conditions
• Taking samples for lab work and evaluating lab reports
• Preparing equipment and assisting physicians during examinations and treatments
• Responding to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocols
• Documenting all care information concisely, accurately, and promptly in the appropriate format
• Applying hemodynamic, phlebotomy, and IV protocols
• Monitoring and adjusting specialized equipment used on patients and interpreting electronic displays
• Monitoring catheters, leads, and tubing for proper placement and functioning
• Initiating corrective action based on information from monitoring/life support equipment when adverse symptoms arise
