Cardiac Sonographer

Job Overview: The Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for performing a variety of echocardiographic studies, including transthoracic, exercise stress, dobutamine echocardiograms, as well as carotid, venous, and arterial studies. This role involves optimizing imaging modalities to ensure comprehensive testing that meets organizational standards, while performing high-quality examinations for physician interpretation.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) and stress echocardiograms, including dobutamine stress echocardiograms.
  • Prepare preliminary interpretations of studies.
  • Utilize echocardiogram imaging agents according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Assist physicians with transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) exams.
  • Maintain and stock echocardiography labs as required.
  • Conduct high-level disinfection of TEE probes.
  • Document and maintain patient data and test results accurately in the computer system.
  • Maintain equipment and manage workload fluctuations effectively.
  • Evaluate patients and adapt procedures as clinical situations change.
  • Fulfill departmental and hospital requirements.
  • Contribute to departmental teamwork and goals.
  • Take ownership of personal performance goals.
  • Ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Assist with daily testing department activities, including patient transport and chart review.
  • Explain examination processes and assist patients with positioning for tests.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: RDCS registered; BLS certification upon hire; ACLS preferred.
  • Training & Experience: One year of experience preferred but not mandatory.
  • Job Knowledge: Possess knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy; demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds; assist with moving, lifting, or transferring patients weighing up to fifty (50) pounds, and support weights exceeding one hundred (100) pounds.
  • Capability to stand for extended periods.
  • Demonstrate fine motor skills and visual acuity.
