Summary:

The Echocardiogram Technician is responsible for performing diagnostic echocardiograms on adult and pediatric patients, ensuring high-quality imaging and patient care.

Responsibilities:

• Perform technical 2D, M-mode, and Doppler cardiac examinations.
• Coordinate activities across hospital departments, including scheduling exams and ensuring accurate billing information.
• Assist cardiologists during examinations by preparing measurements and providing pertinent information for diagnosis.
• Facilitate timely delivery and organization of dictations.
• Address patient needs throughout the exam, reporting any changes in condition to the attending physician or nurse.
• Order and maintain Echo supplies, ensuring a clean and well-equipped work environment.
• Log patients and document exams while filing patient records accurately.
• Participate in departmental and hospital-wide performance improvement activities.
• Maintain quality control for equipment and examinations, coordinating repairs as necessary.
• Stay informed about advancements in echocardiography and seek advice from cardiologists regarding skill development.
• Support other cardiac procedures as required.

Requirements:

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a two-year allied health education program related to patient care, preferred fields include diagnostic medical sonography, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, or nursing.

Certification/Licenses:

• A.R.D.M.S./CCI registered or registry-eligible, or comparable national accreditation.
• State of New Mexico Echo Sonographer License.
• BLS certification issued through the American Heart Association.

Skills:

• Capability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Manual dexterity required for performing echocardiograms.

Experience:

• Preferred: Two years of experience in performing echocardiograms.
