Job Summary

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for providing safe patient care in alignment with established standards and practices, following professional and organizational requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assists in the Coordination of Patient Care:
  • Assists registered nurses in planning and coordinating patient care.
  • Collaborates with other health team members.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Provides support during surgical procedures without acting as a surgical assistant.
• Implements Patient Care:
  • Ensures asepsis is maintained throughout procedures.
  • Performs scrubbing duties effectively.
  • Communicates relevant patient information to appropriate personnel.
  • Accounts for all equipment and supplies used during patient care.
• Interpersonal Skills:
  • Communicates effectively with peers, health team members, patients, and visitors.
  • Demonstrates adaptability and teamwork within the department.
  • Resolves problems and meets Customer Service Quality Standards consistently.
• Clinical Preceptor:
  • Serves as a clinical preceptor for scrubbing duties, following the orientation outline and collaborating with the patient care coordinator and Clinical Nurse Specialist.
• Care of Environment and Equipment:
  • Maintains cleanliness in the unit and cleans equipment as needed.
  • Responsible for the proper use and care of equipment used during surgical cases.
• Other Responsibilities:
  • Performs additional job duties as required.

• Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures related to patient care.
• Awareness of common safety hazards to ensure a safe work environment.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships and communicate clearly.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Work Demands and Environment

• Frequent standing for long periods, walking, bending, and stooping.
• Ability to lift/move patients and carry weight up to 50 lbs.
• Frequent pushing or pulling of up to 50 lbs.
• Requires hand and finger dexterity for various tasks and constant reaching with hands/arms.
• Exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and a moderate to high noise level.
• May require work under stressful conditions or irregular hours.

Education and Certifications

• Required Education:
  • High School Diploma/GED and one of the following:
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist educational program
  • Completion of an approved Surgical Technology training program through a U.S. Military Training Program.
• Required Certifications:
  • NBSTSA-Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
  • BLS Certification
• Preferred Certifications: N/A

Schedule Notes

• 12 weeks/40 hours per week with 8-hour day shifts from 0630 to 1500.
• May require 2-3 weekday call shifts and weekend call every 3rd to 4th weekend.
• MUST HAVE CARDIAC/VASCULAR AND HYBRID EXPERIENCE.
