Adult Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

This is a 36-hour per week position for an Adult Psychiatric Registered Nurse working nights with weekend rotations. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients experiencing a wide range of mental health challenges.

Unit Description

The unit consists of 30 beds dedicated to adult patients aged 18 to 65. Our patient population includes individuals with various mental health issues such as:

• Anxiety
• Depression
• Suicidal ideation
• Schizophrenia
• Bipolar disorder
• Borderline personality disorder
• Dual diagnosis patients, including those requiring detoxification

Additionally, the unit may serve some medically acute patients, requiring care for conditions such as IV management, CPAP usage, wound care, and diabetes management.

Responsibilities

• Administer psychotropic medications while monitoring for side effects.
• Utilize an automatic medication dispensing system proficiently.
• Assume the charge nurse role as needed.
• Conduct patient admissions and discharges.
• Provide care for diabetic patients and manage IV pumps effectively.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 2 years of inpatient adult psychiatric nursing experience is required.
• Active Massachusetts RN License is mandatory.
• AHA BLS certification is required.

Patient Care

The clinician-to-patient ratio is 1 RN to 7 or 8 patients, ensuring a supportive and effective therapeutic environment.

Charting System

Familiarity with electronic medical record systems, specifically EPIC, is preferred.

Additional Information

• Floating to other units may be required.
• Rotating shifts will be necessary for day roles, but are not required for night positions.
