Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse for our Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit. The ideal candidate will possess strong critical thinking and clinical skills to manage a variety of patient diagnoses effectively.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience
- Accepts first-time travelers and local candidates
- Skills in the following areas:
- Medical/Surgical nursing
- Telemetry with remote monitoring
- Rapid Response Team utilization
- Interpretation of dysrhythmias
- IV insulin protocols
- Colostomy care
- Feeding tube care and management
- Pre/Post Hemodialysis management
- Blood product administration
- Central line blood draws
- Peripheral line care/management
- Phlebotomy
- PICC line management
- Starting IVs, Heparin, PCA
- Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac)
- CPAP/BiPAP
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Nasal Cannula and Non-invasive airway management
- Oral suctioning and oxygen administration
- Isolation precautions
- Wound care and management (Wound Vac)
- Certifications:
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience with MS/Tele and telemetry on-unit monitoring
- Management of dysrhythmias
- Accessing ports and insulin management
- Knowledge of CVA, surgical drains, ABG interpretation
- Tracheostomy management
- Familiarity with Epic electronic health record system
Job Details
- Patient Ratios: 1:5-6
- Shift: 12-hour nights (36-48 hours accepted)
- Contract Length: 13-26 weeks
- Orientation: 24 hours unit orientation followed by hospital orientation in the first week
- Scrubs: Navy/White
Additional Requirements
- Staff will be assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualties
- Floating between units is required
- Weekend shifts: 12-16 per contract
- RTO (Requested Time Off): Maximum of 7 days
Patient Diagnoses
Candidates should be prepared to care for patients with a range of conditions including dementia, diabetes, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, and hip fractures.
Unit Details
The unit includes an isolation area for COVID patients and provides multi-level care, including stepdown patients managed by specialized staff. The unit operates with systems such as Pyxis for medication management, Epic for documentation, and utilizes the SBAR communication method.
