Registered Nurse (RN) - Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

Shift Details

This position requires a commitment of 36 hours per week with variable start times and shifts. Weekend availability is mandatory, and on-call requirements are also part of the role.

Key Responsibilities

• Patient Monitoring: Continuously monitor vital signs including heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and temperature, while assessing the patient’s level of consciousness during the recovery period from anesthesia.
• Airway Management: Ensure the airway remains patent and that adequate respiratory function is present, intervening quickly in cases of obstruction or respiratory distress.
• Symptom and Pain Management: Administer medications effectively to manage postoperative symptoms, including pain and nausea, ensuring patient comfort.
• Assessment and Intervention: Conduct assessments of surgical sites for complications, monitor dressings, and undertake physical assessments, recognizing and addressing any adverse reactions to anesthesia or surgery as necessary.
• Documentation and Communication: Maintain accurate and detailed patient records and communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare team members regarding the patient’s condition and care plan.

Qualifications

• 2 years of experience in a Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is mandatory.
• Active state nursing license in Michigan is required at the time of application.
