Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our surgical unit team. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with a diverse range of surgical and trauma patients.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to patients in a surgical setting.
- Interpret and manage dysrhythmias while utilizing Rapid Response Teams when necessary.
- Administer blood products and manage various lines and drains, including central line and peripheral line care.
- Apply isolation precautions and provide wound care, including the use of Wound Vac systems.
- Handle non-invasive airway management and support patients using nasal cannulas.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of surgical unit experience is required; travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification
- Preferred Skills:
- Ability to titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips.
- Experience with chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac).
Work Environment
- Patient Ratios: 1:6 for surgical/medicine inpatient patients.
- Shift Details: 12-hour night shifts.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend.
- Floating Requirement: May need to float to other units as necessary.
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of 2 days of hospital orientation followed by 24 hours of floor training.
- All staff must wear navy scrubs or navy on the bottom with a white top.
- Must pass EKG testing prior to starting for this specialty.
- This position may require staff to report to work during catastrophic events or disasters.
Patient Diagnoses & Procedures
The surgical unit handles a wide range of patient diagnoses and procedures, including but not limited to:
- Cellulitis
- Appendicitis
- Cholecystitis
- Motor Vehicle Accidents
- Various cancers
- Trauma-related injuries
- Inpatient surgical procedures such as cholecystectomy, appendectomy, and hernia repair.
