Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Medical Surgical Registered Nurse to join our team. This role requires the ability to provide comprehensive care to adult and geriatric patients in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
• Monitor patient progress and report any changes to the healthcare team.
• Assist in the management of patient care, leading to positive outcomes.
• Engage in patient education and support, promoting health and wellness.
• Participate in team meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient care.
• Adapt and float to similar units and alternative care locations as needed.
• Fulfill call obligations and be prepared to work during catastrophic events or mass casualties.
• Maintain a professional demeanor and uphold unit policies and procedures at all times.

Requirements

• Current BLS certification required.
• Minimum of 2 years of medical-surgical nursing experience.
• CPI certification preferred.
• Charge nurse experience preferred, especially for night shift travelers.
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty.
• Must be flexible to work holidays and every other weekend.

Shift Details

This position involves 12-hour night shifts from 18:45 to 07:15, with options for 36 and 48-hour contracts accepted. Longer contracts may be available through February 2026.

Patient Population

The patient demographic includes adults and geriatrics experiencing general medical and surgical issues, with a daily census of approximately 43 patients.

Special Procedures

• Administration of heparin drips.
• Wound VAC dressing changes.
• High flow oxygen therapy.
• Short-term BiPap respiratory support as needed.

Unit Systems

The unit utilizes PYXIS for medication management, EPIC for documentation, and SBAR for communication.

Orientation

A 24-hour orientation will be provided for new hires to ensure a smooth transition into the unit.

Uniform

Navy scrubs are required for this position.
