Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Medical Surgical Registered Nurse to provide care for adult and geriatric patients in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The position involves delivering high-quality patient care while adhering to facility protocols and standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and monitor patients with a variety of medical and surgical conditions.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Conduct patient assessments and collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement care plans.
• Utilize advanced medical technologies and equipment, including heparin drips, wound vac dressing changes, and high flow oxygen.
• Participate in unit meetings and contribute to the overall team objectives.
• Float to similar units and alternative care locations as required.
• Respond to emergency situations according to established protocols.

Shift and Schedule

• 12-hour night shifts from 18:45 to 07:15.
• 36 and 48-hour contracts accepted.
• Call may be required as needed.
• Every other weekend and holiday work is mandatory.

Qualifications

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
• A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a medical/surgical unit is required.
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
• Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification is preferred.
• Charge nurse experience is preferred for night shift travelers.

Patient Population

The unit serves a daily census of approximately 43 adults and geriatrics, including general medical and surgical patients. No advanced care unit (PCU) patients are admitted to this unit.

Unit System and Orientation

• Utilizes PYXIS for medication management and EPIC for documentation.
• Orientation period of 24 hours will be provided.

Additional Information

All travelers and staff must be prepared to participate in emergency response teams during catastrophic events or disasters. Attendance at scheduled unit team meetings is mandatory, with meetings held on the 4th Wednesday of each month from January to October and on the 3rd Wednesday in November and December. Additional meetings for night shift staff will occur the following Friday at 07:30.

Attire

Scrubs should be navy in color.
