Job Overview

An exciting opportunity is available for a Registered Nurse specializing in surgical care within a dynamic inpatient surgical unit. This role requires a dedicated professional with surgical unit experience to deliver exceptional patient care and support a variety of surgical procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to surgical and medicine inpatient patients.
• Interpret and manage dysrhythmias effectively; utilize rapid response teams when necessary.
• Administer blood products and manage central and peripheral lines, surgical drains, and wound care.
• Implement and monitor non-invasive airway management and isolation precautions.
• Assist in a wide range of surgical procedures and patient diagnoses, including trauma cases.
• Participate in weekend rotations and on-call assignments as required.

Patient Diagnoses

The role entails working with a diverse range of patients, including those with conditions such as:

• Cellulitis
• Appendicitis
• Cholecystitis
• Diverticulitis
• Trauma from accidents, shootings, and stabbings
• Various cancers and other surgical conditions

Special Procedures & Unit Details

In this unit, you will support a variety of surgical procedures, including but not limited to:

• Cholecystectomy
• Appendectomy
• Hernia Repair
• TURP
• Ostomy Creation or Closure
• Wound Debridement and Kidney Stone Removal
• Amputations and Fem Pop Bypass

Special Equipment

• Wound Vac systems
• Chest Tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
• NG tubes
• Various types of drains including JP and Hemovac

Requirements

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of surgical unit experience.
• Travel experience is preferred but not required.
• Must possess current BLS, ACLS, and NIH certification.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips.
• Familiarity with managing chest tubes.

Work Schedule

Shifts are primarily 12 hours nights, with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6. Expect to work every other weekend and be available for floating to other units as needed.

Orientation

Two days of hospital orientation followed by 24 hours of floor training are included to ensure readiness for the role.

Additional Information

Contract staff may be required to work during catastrophic events or disasters. Preparation for consolidation may occur during the contract period.

For this specific specialty, passing EKG testing prior to the start of the role is mandatory.
