Job Description

Under the supervision of the Radiologist and the CT Supervisor, the CT Technologist performs CT procedures that adhere to department protocols at a technical level. The role requires the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and perform a variety of technical procedures, including interventional cases, CT Angiography, and advanced 3D reconstruction. This position demands independent judgment and creativity in applying ionizing radiation while following the ALARA principle for CT diagnosis. Responsibilities include administering IV, oral, and rectal contrast, maintaining equipment, and ensuring a clean and organized workspace.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Support and promote the mission and values of the organization.
• Acquire scans in accordance with radiologist and departmental protocols.
• Inform patients about exams and provide instructions to enhance cooperation.
• Assist the radiologist during interventional procedures.
• Coordinate daily workload by scheduling inpatients and prioritizing emergency department patients while considering the outpatient schedule.
• Review IV Contrast Questionnaire with patients receiving IV contrast.
• Complete documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Review exams in PACS for completeness before submission to the radiologist.
• Ensure the safety of all patients.
• Assist with the 24/7 coverage of the department as needed.
• Arrive on time for all assigned shifts and be prepared to work until the end of the shift.
• Complete mandatory learning, competencies, and CEUs as required.
• Adhere to dress code policy.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance.
• Perform cleaning, stocking of supplies, and laundry to ensure a professional workspace.
• Carry out other duties consistent with this role.

Job Knowledge and Skills

• Knowledge of CT Scan software, preferably GE and Siemens.
• Familiarity with PACS software, preferably McKesson Change Healthcare.
• Understanding of Electronic Medical Record systems, especially Epic.
• Expertise in patient preparation, positioning, and scan acquisition according to protocol.
• Ability to identify anatomy, pathology, and contrast enhancement on cross-sectional imaging.
• Gather symptom and relevant patient history to ensure medical necessity for procedures.
• Consistently strive to minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff.
• Understand daily QA and warm-up procedures for CT Scan equipment.
• Skilled in troubleshooting CT Scan equipment issues and contacting service as needed.
• Adhere to ALARA principles at all times.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

The role requires the physical and mental ability to perform tasks typically associated with this position, which includes a combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. The position involves lifting or carrying frequently up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Some stress may arise from the high level of responsibility for providing quality care.
