Unit Description

This unit specializes in the care of patients who have undergone bone and joint reconstructive surgery, joint replacement, orthopedic trauma surgery, or have experienced sports injuries. The unit provides medical and surgical overflow, with remote telemetry monitoring supported by a dedicated staff. Patients are generally aged 18 and older, with nurse-to-patient ratios typically of 1:4, occasionally flexing to 1:5.

Shift Information

• Shift: Nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
• Schedule: Weekdays, Every Other Weekend (EOW), float required
• Contract Options: 36 or 48 hours per week, with overtime opportunities after 48 hours for 4x12s

Orientation Schedule

Orientation is held bi-weekly on Thursdays and Fridays. The first day includes training in a computer lab, while the second day involves meeting unit staff and management and obtaining a work schedule.

Patient Ratios

Standard patient ratios are 1:5.

Experience Requirements

Minimum of 2 years of RN experience, with at least 1 year of experience in specialty nursing.

Weekend Requirements

Every other weekend work is required.

Certifications Required

• BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
• ACLS and NIH certifications are preferred

Skill Requirements

• Telemetry monitoring
• IV insertion
• Administration of medications: Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Argatroban, Amiodarone, Dopamine (for renal perfusion only)
• Utilization of medical devices: CPMs, Orthopat, Constavac, Hemovac, Wound Vacs, traction

Floating Policy

Clinicians may be floated within their scope of practice to meet facility needs.

Blocked Schedule Requests

Schedule accommodations may be available based on unit needs.

Travel Requirements

A radius requirement of 100 miles applies. Submissions from those within a 75-99 mile radius may be considered with prior approval. Local candidates are not accepted.

License Information

Pending RN licenses are accepted for submission.

Vaccination Requirements

Flu vaccination is mandatory for all personnel from October 1st to March 31st unless medical documentation of an allergy is provided. COVID-19 vaccination is not required.
