Job Summary: Under the medical supervision of certified radiologists and following established protocols, CT technologists will produce computerized tomography scanner radiographs of designated anatomical areas as ordered by the physician for the interpretation and diagnosis of patient diseases or injuries. Technologists will also assist radiologists with procedures and supervise student Radiologic Technologists assigned to them, while ensuring high levels of customer relations.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Patient Care: Ensure the care and safety of patients during imaging procedures, utilizing age-appropriate care. Efficiently obtain correct written orders for procedures while managing time effectively to meet patient care assignments. Assist in the clinical education of student technologists. (40%)
- Equipment Utilization: Utilize imaging equipment efficiently while minimizing repeat examinations. Be mindful of cost containment when using supplies. (20%)
- Patient Interaction: Instruct and prepare patients regarding imaging procedures and assist in obtaining informed consent as needed. Communicate clearly with patients and family members regarding discharge instructions. (10%)
- Documentation: Ensure accurate orders, diagnoses, and clinical histories are entered into the computer system. Communicate effectively with radiologists regarding procedures, maintaining a positive and professional demeanor in both verbal and written communications. (10%)
- Safety and Compliance: Adhere to hospital, departmental, and safety policies and procedures. Practice good radiation protection, following established guidelines from DHEC, TJC, and other governing organizations. Maintain confidentiality of medical and sensitive information. (10%)
- Team Collaboration: Assist other members of the Imaging Team and other disciplines, including clerical staff, to maintain records and reports. Demonstrate flexibility and accountability in job duties, acting as a self-starter towards improving departmental operations. (10%)
Work Demands/Environment:
Responsibilities include frequent standing, walking, and lifting/moving patients, with intermittent lifting or carrying of up to 50 lbs. Technologists must have manual dexterity for finger/hand movements and will be exposed to blood, body fluids, or tissue. The position may involve exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases, and risk of radiation. Additionally, there may be intermittent exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and blood-borne pathogens. Work is conducted in a quiet to moderate noise level environment and may require working under stressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to perform and teach CT exams to yield satisfactory diagnostic images.
- Knowledge of OSHA, DHEC, FDA, and TJC standards and regulations.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment.
Education and Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or GED is required. Graduation from an accredited school of Allied Health Professionals is preferred, as is the completion of an accredited Computed Tomography Program.
- Experience: One year of experience as a Radiologic Technologist is preferred.
- Licensure/Certification: Must be registered in Radiologic Technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or possess a permanent certification in Radiography from SCRQSA for current teammates. ARRT registration in CT is preferred. A current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card is also required.
Schedule Notes:
Position available for a 22-week assignment, with shifts Monday through Wednesday from 7 AM to 7:30 PM and 2-3 call shifts every 6 weeks.
