Job Summary

The Registered Nurse is a clinical practitioner who coordinates and implements patient care specific to the population served on the assigned units. This role ensures that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner, consistent with established standards. The Registered Nurse demonstrates performance that aligns with the mission and goals of the organization while treating staff, physicians, patients, and families with consideration and respect.

Responsibilities

• Meets the expectations of applicable competencies, including leader of self and leader of others.
• Obtains and records initial assessments; establishes priorities according to patient age, symptoms, and psychosocial needs.
• Reassesses patients systematically to monitor progress and identify trends requiring intervention.
• Develops and implements individualized care plans within established time frames.
• Makes comprehensive nursing decisions based on evaluations of patient outcomes and modifies care plans as necessary.
• Participates in patient and significant other health education and discharge planning.
• Implements and documents timely interventions appropriate to patient needs.
• Evaluates plans of care for effectiveness.
• Performs various Point of Care testing procedures.

Staff Responsibilities

• Utilizes effective communication strategies to achieve intended outcomes.
• Delegates unit work assignments to ensure completion of required patient care activities.
• Coordinates team assignments and makes adjustments based on patient and unit needs, following up on delegated tasks for quality and completeness.
• Utilizes the appropriate chain of command for issue resolution.
• Participates in the orientation of new staff and students on the unit.
• Functions as a resource to visitors, physicians, and staff; welcoming them courteously.
• Promotes a positive work environment through a professional and supportive attitude.
• Receptive and responsive to new ideas, participating in the unit’s growth and development.
• Collaborates with team members to achieve unit and organizational goals.

Job Requirements

Education/Skills

• Graduate of an accredited program for Registered Nursing.
• Current knowledge and skills appropriate to the age and type of patient population served.
• Knowledgeable and sensitive to patients’ rights in the delivery of care.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, tailoring messages according to the developmental age of the patient.

Experience

• All newly hired nurses with two or fewer years of experience will be hired at a CN I status. A new hire can be considered for a higher clinical ladder level based on years of relevant experience, national professional nursing certification, or achievement of additional nursing education.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

• Current RN license in New Mexico or a current Compact state license.
• BLS Certification required.
• ACLS Certification required.
• PALS Certification required.
• NRP certification required.

Work Schedule

Shift: Nights (7 PM - 7 AM), Full Time. Weekend commitment is required.

Additional Requirements

• Experience in Peds and Med-Surg preferred.
• Floating to Labor & Delivery and Med-Surg may be required.
• Grey scrubs are the designated dress code.
