General Job Duties
The ICU Registered Nurse will provide critical care to patients within a collaborative interdisciplinary team. Responsibilities include:
- Monitoring and managing complex patient needs, including mechanical ventilation
- Administering intravenous medications and oxygen therapy
- Performing moderate sedation during procedures
- Utilizing telemetry and maintaining cardiac monitoring
- Providing postoperative care and managing chest tubes and tracheostomies
Equipment Utilization
- Epic for documentation
- Alaris pumps for intravenous fluids
- Acudose for medication administration
Essential Skills
- Bipap and Cpap management
- Heated High Flow therapy
- Oxygen titration
- Moderate Sedation
- Telemetry and medical-surgical patient care
Licensure and Certifications
- Current RN license in South Dakota or compact state
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Preferred specialty certification
Shift Requirements
Registered Nurses will collaborate with case managers, social workers, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and physical therapists to deliver patient-centered care. The role includes:
- Every other weekend and holiday shifts
- Typical schedule includes straight night shifts, rotating shifts, or blocked scheduling
Patient Care and Unit Environment
The unit comprises a 30-bed medical-surgical component and an 8-bed progressive care unit, providing a total of 41 beds as needed based on COVID-19 volume. The nursing team is committed to patient safety, offering a supportive family culture while providing a diverse range of care, including:
- Pneumonia
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Congestive heart failure
- COVID-19 management
- Pulmonary embolism
Nurse to Patient Ratio
- 1:3 for Pulmonary Acute for IMC RNs
- 1:4 to 1:5 for day shifts; 1:5 to 1:6 for night shifts
Orientation and Training
Orientation includes:
- Day 1: Competency validation and core training modules
- Day 2: Shadowing a preceptor with practical patient care activities
- Day 3: 12-hour shift on the unit
