Job Summary
Under the direction of department management and in accordance with established policies and procedures, the Respiratory Therapist II demonstrates advanced knowledge in respiratory care and related patient care areas. This role involves providing comprehensive care to patients through airway management, mechanical ventilator management, oxygen therapy, and aerosol therapy, along with other respiratory care procedures designed to assess and manage respiratory dysfunction.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer standard respiratory care, including aerosol medication delivery, basic bedside pulmonary function testing, breathing exercises, and arterial punctures.
- Perform all aspects of airway management, including aspiration of established airways, tracheostomy care, tracheostomy tube changes, endotracheal intubations, and extubations.
- Transport pediatric and neonatal patients as needed per established protocols.
- Execute procedures per advanced practice protocols, which may include UAC, UVC, IV insertion, intraosseous insertion, chest tube insertion, needle decompression, ABGs, and blood glucose monitoring.
- Manage extracorporeal circulation for cardiac and respiratory support of patients when necessary.
- Provide ventilator care, including setup and verification of function using specialized modes to manage patients’ diseases, along with monitoring and weaning techniques as appropriate.
- Maintain and improve job knowledge and skills, functioning independently with minimal supervision and serving as a resource to other staff.
Required Skills & Experience
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret clinical information and technical procedures.
- Strong documentation skills regarding clinical information.
- Effective communication skills to respond to questions from patients, physicians, family members, and colleagues.
- Mathematical proficiency to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Analytical reasoning skills to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Capability to interpret a broad range of technical situations.
Required Education
- Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
Required Certifications & Licensure
- Current certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- Must possess at least one of the following certifications depending on the practice area: ACLS, NRP, PALS, or an advanced practice certificate to administer moderate sedation in a bronchoscopy lab.
- All certifications must be maintained as required by the certifying body.
Schedule Notes
Candidates must be able to start on the specified date. Scheduling requests may be considered.
Shift Details
Day shift from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
