Registered Nurse (RN) - Med/Surg

Job Details

This position involves a focus on medical-surgical nursing, specifically in telemetry care. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality patient care while adhering to best practices in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Required Skills and Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Med/Surg or Telemetry nursing.
• First-time travelers are accepted.
• Proficient in interpreting and managing dysrhythmias, blood product administration, and peripheral line care.
• Experience with managing patients experiencing CVA (Cerebrovascular Accident) and using nasal cannulas for oxygen administration.
• Knowledge of isolation precautions and PPE protocols.

Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

Preferred Skills and Certifications

• Experience with IV insulin protocols, Heparin, and cardiac drips (no titration).
• Ability to manage BiPAP/CPAP and High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC).
• Comfort with non-invasive airway management and oral suctioning.
• Wound care experience, including use of wound vacs, is preferred.
• Community hospital experience is a plus.

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is preferred.
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification is preferred.

Work Environment

• Target nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5 to 1:6.
• Shifts: Night shifts, with 3 shifts of 12 hours each (18:45 - 07:15).
• A total of 36 hours of work can be offered.
• Accepts 13-week contracts.
• Ability to float to different areas as needed is required.
• Weekend requirements: Every third weekend (8 shifts over 13 weeks).

Patient Population

The unit primarily cares for patients with:

• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
• Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
• Diabetes
• Infectious diseases
• Rehabilitation needs
• General medical/surgical conditions

Unit Details

• Average Daily Census: 8 patients
• Total Beds: 12
• Documentation and communication will utilize manual dispense carts and paper forms.

Orientation and Training

• Orientation for new hires will last between 24-36 hours.
• Hospital orientation is scheduled for the first week, and attendance in daily classes is mandatory.

Scrubs

Navy blue scrubs are required.
