Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU (SICU) position requiring a CA RN license and advanced critical care skills.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) of an acute care hospital
• 47-bed ICU with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1 and 1:2
• Patient population includes post-cardiac procedures (TAVR, PCI), open heart surgery, stroke, neuro, sepsis, DKA, and other critical cases
• RNs are required to titrate both common titratable and set-rate drips
• Equipment used includes ventilators, Cpap, BiPap, Nitric oxide, GE bedside and central tele monitors
• RNs are responsible for reading and posting telemetry strips every 4 hours
• Cerner EMR system is used
• 12-hour day shifts with every other weekend required
• Float to telemetry units as needed
• On-call requirements are present
• Self-scheduling is allowed unless otherwise specified
• Hospital-provided navy blue scrubs are required
• Responsibilities include managing critically ill patients, titrating drips, and operating advanced ICU equipment
• ICU techs/CNAs present to support nursing staff
• 24/7 intensivist and respiratory therapist coverage in the unit
• Unit-specific orientation is provided after general hospital orientation with 1 shift in ICU and 1 in telemetry
• RNs must pass Relias Dysrhythmia and sterile technique testing if required for the region
• Candidates may not have been employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities in the past year
• No holiday coverage required for this assignment

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of recent SICU or ICU experience
• Certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS, NIHSS
• Proven skills with vasoactive drips, lines, and ventilator management
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips
• Two professional references required: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months, and one from a peer or supervisor within the past 3 years
