Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring strong Med/Tele skills and an active NC or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work in a hospital Med/Surg Tele unit with 35 beds and an average census of 22
• Patient population includes general Med/Surg cases such as stroke, CHF, COPD, respiratory illnesses, diabetes, post-surgical, and behavioral health
• RN to patient ratio is 1:5
• Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell med dispenser, Phillips monitors, and Masimo equipment
• CNAs, phlebotomists, and RT are available 24/7; IV/VAT team and receptionist support is available on dayshift
• Weekend rotation is every other weekend
• No on-call requirements
• Travelers will work 75% of holidays
• Floating is required within multiple hospitals in the specified region and within scope of practice
• RNs may float to related units such as Med/Tele, ICU, PCU, and ED as needed
• Responsibilities include providing comprehensive care to a diverse Med/Surg Tele patient population, including post-op, cardiac, and behavioral health cases
• Must be comfortable with advanced procedures such as TPN, PPN, chest tube management, trach care, PIV starts, NGT placement, wound care, and management of a variety of drains and tubes
• The unit supports strong teamwork and collaboration among nursing staff
• Travelers will receive up to three days of orientation including facility and departmental training
• Navy scrubs are required
• Free parking is available onsite
• RTO up to 6 days may be approved, excluding holidays, with the possibility to extend the contract to meet required hours
• First-time travelers are not preferred but may be considered

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required
• Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS required
• Competency in stroke care and NIH assessments, cardiac rhythm interpretation, post-op care, orthopedic care, medication gtt management, and general Med/Tele nursing skills
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility
