Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring a compact or VA RN license, two years of recent high-acuity L&D experience, and strong circulating skills.
Responsibilities
- Work in an LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum) unit with 11 labor rooms, 2 OBs, 2 ORs, and 3 OB ED triage beds
- Patient population includes vaginal and cesarean deliveries, versions, cerclages, and antepartum cases
- Staff-to-patient ratio of 1:1 during active labor and 1:3 for antepartum when fully staffed
- Uses equipment such as warmers, GE monitors, pulse oximeters, and glucose monitors
- Skill sets required include fetal and cardiac monitoring, with fetal monitoring experience necessary
- Floating within the Women’s Health department likely
- 12-hour night shifts, with every other weekend and major holiday coverage required
- On-call required 1-2 shifts every 6 weeks
- Main responsibilities include caring for women and newborns throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum, triaging, and managing both vaginal and cesarean births
- Team structure typically consists of three RNs and one tech per shift
- Expected to float within Women’s Health areas based on patient needs
- Pass/fail EKG testing required on the first day, with two attempts permitted and study guides provided
- Holiday and every other weekend coverage is mandatory
- Scrub skills are preferred, as are first-time traveler applicants with relevant experience
- Dress code and orientation details will be provided upon hire
Requirements
- Active VA or compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of recent L&D experience with higher acuity preferred
- Current BLS and NRP certifications required, ACLS preferred
- Circulating experience required; scrub experience preferred
- Fetal monitoring experience required (certification not mandatory)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
- Strong preference for candidates with Epic EMR experience
- No local candidates accepted within a 50-mile radius
