Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Telemetry ER Hold position in an acute care Level 1 trauma setting, requiring strong cardiac telemetry skills and an active AZ or compact RN license.
Responsibilities
- Work in an ED Holds/Telemetry unit within an acute care Level 1 trauma hospital
- Patients are ED holds awaiting inpatient placement, with primary focus on cardiac telemetry care
- Patient ratio is typically 1:4
- Nurses are responsible for titrating cardiac drips including Cardizem, Heparin, and Amiodarone
- Nurses must read and interpret telemetry strips; there are no monitor techs on the unit
- 12-hour night shifts are available (7a-7p or 7p-7a), with self-scheduling possible
- Required to work 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule and 2 of 4 major holidays
- Floating to medical/surgical, telemetry, overflow, and both campuses' EDs as needed
- Cerner is used as the EMR system and experience is required
- RNs provide care for patients boarding in the ED and may assist with ED patients for tasks such as vitals, IV starts, and medication administration
- Not assigned as primary RN for ED patients
- Team includes ED charge nurses and PCTs; unit does not use respiratory therapy equipment such as vents or BiPAP
- Navy scrubs are required
- Two-shift orientation to Med/Surg/Tele at primary campus is provided
- Returning candidates must not have been employed by any associated facilities within the past year
- Nurses must pass a sterile technique skills test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes in orientation
- Holiday work rotates with permanent staff
- First-time travelers and MS/Tele nurses without prior travel experience will be considered
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of recent cardiac telemetry experience within the last 6 months
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (AHA or APEX)
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam via Relias within 48 hours of offer, with a maximum of 2 attempts
- Must pass a pass/fail SIM lab on first day of orientation
- Strong ability to read telemetry strips and titrate cardiac drips per provider orders
