Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg RN with strong telemetry skills and current ACLS and BLS certifications for a night shift assignment in an acute care setting.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a 32-bed Medical Surgical unit within an acute care hospital
  • Care for a patient population that is 80% surgical and 20% oncology, including ortho (JHACO certified knee and hip program), urological, abdominal, Whipple, and various women’s surgical cases
  • Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 for both day and night shifts
  • GE telemetry monitors are used with a central monitoring station technician
  • Charting is done using Cerner EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7-7
  • Weekend requirement is four shifts per four-week period, including days and nights, with major and minor holiday coverage required
  • Floating required to Med/Surg Tele units B2C and B2D
  • No ventilator management required, SWAT nurse available for difficult IVs, RT and pharmacy support 24/7, and charge nurse does not take patients
  • Two shift floor-specific orientation in addition to general orientation
  • Daily duties include managing a mixed surgical and oncology caseload, providing care for elective joint replacements, and monitoring telemetry patients
  • Must wear navy scrubs
  • Spectralink phones used on the unit for call light response
  • First-time travelers are not specified, but former employees of CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities within the past year are not eligible
  • Must cover one major and one minor holiday if scheduled
  • Candidates who fail required onboarding exams will not be eligible for rehire for 6 months
  • Pharmacy and RT available 24/7 for clinical support

Requirements

  • Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of application
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg experience with telemetry skills, with experience within the last 6 months
  • Current ACLS and BLS certifications are mandatory
  • Must be able to read telemetry strips and titrate down Amiodarone and Cardizem infusions
  • Cerner charting experience preferred
  • Ability to float to Med/Surg Tele units as needed
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; current driver's license required for verification
  • Must provide two professional references, one from a supervisor within the last 12 months and another from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years
  • Must pass a dysrhythmia (Relias) exam within two attempts prior to start and a pass/fail Sim Lab on day one of orientation
