Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a MedSurg/Telemetry night shift position in an acute care setting requiring a CA license and expertise in cardiac monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 30-bed MedSurg/Telemetry unit within an acute care hospital
• Patient population includes ESRD, diabetes, COPD, and ETOH cases
• Nurse to patient ratio is 1:5
• Required to float to telemetry and must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
• Uses Cerner PowerChart EMR system
• 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required
• Expected to work assigned holidays in rotation with permanent staff
• Bipap and CPAP are utilized on the unit
• No drips administered in this department
• Charge nurse and nurse aides are available for support
• Nurses provide comprehensive care including cardiac monitoring for a variety of medical-surgical patients
• Expected to float to the Tele unit and other similar units as needed
• Will have one hour of unit-specific orientation and a day of orientation for the Tele unit
• Testing on Relias Dysrhythmia and sterile techniques may be required during onboarding
• Hospitalist and respiratory therapist are available 24/7; no dedicated IV team
• Blue scrubs are required for RN staff
• First to float if census fluctuates
• Candidates may not have been employed by any facility associated with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required at time of consideration
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
• Minimum 2 years of recent MedSurg Telemetry experience
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Must be able to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips; basic arrhythmia course preferred
• Experience with Cerner charting system preferred
• Two professional references required: one supervisor reference from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from the past 3 years
• Copy of driver’s license required for consideration
