Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Mother Baby position in a labor and delivery/postpartum unit requiring current CA RN licensure and C-section circulation experience.

Responsibilities

• Position is in the Maternal Child unit (L&D/PP) in an acute care hospital setting
• Unit includes 8 L&D beds (6 overflow), 7 triage beds, and 40 postpartum beds covering mother/baby, antepartum, and GYN patients
• Handles 1800-2000 births per year with common cases including high-risk pregnancies, multiples, vacuum deliveries, and VBACs
• Staffing ratios are 1:2 for active labor, 1:1 for delivery, 1:3 in triage, and 1:4 couplets in postpartum
• Requires ability to float to Postpartum unit as needed
• Works 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required
• No on-call required, but additional call may be picked up if desired
• EMR system used is Cerner; prior Cerner experience is required
• Serve a diverse maternity population including high-risk and standard L&D cases
• Role involves circulating for C-sections and supporting admissions, assessments, and postpartum care
• Team support includes charge nurse, OB techs, laborist, anesthesia, NICU RN, neonatologist, RT, and pharmacy coverage 24/7
• Participate in orientation with 1-2 shifts alongside a preceptor
• Navy scrubs required for Mother/Baby and Postpartum; L&D scrubs provided by facility
• Rotating holiday coverage with core staff is expected
• Facility is certified as Baby Friendly
• Returning travelers must not have worked at a facility associated with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required at time of application
• Minimum of 2 years recent L&D and postpartum RN experience required
• Current BLS, ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM) certifications required
• Must have proven experience circulating C-sections
• Two professional references required: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years
