Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute night shift position requiring an active IL RN license and prior dedicated neuro unit experience.
Responsibilities
- Position is in the Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit within an acute care hospital setting
- 54-bed unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
- Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and medical overflow cases
- Responsible for titration of Heparin drips based on PTT and care of neuroscience patients
- EPIC EMR system is used; prior experience with EPIC preferred
- Phillips telemetry monitors are used and nurses are not required to read their own strips
- Night shifts are 12 hours (1900-0700), scheduled in blocks of three with every other weekend and holiday rotation
- Float required within general unit rotation; if floated outside core unit, will be paired with a trained nurse and assigned tasks within competency
- Care delivery supported by 24/7 charge nurse and house supervisor; charge nurse usually is not assigned patient care
- Support staff includes nurse aides and patient care techs with varied ratios by shift
- High flow oxygen is rarely used and limited to stable COVID cases
- Orientation includes two days of unit-specific and EMR training with preceptorship
- Scrub color is not specified, but all tattoos must be covered while on duty and only ear piercings are allowed
- Every other weekend and holiday coverage required
- No call or standby responsibilities
- No COVID vaccination required for this position
- Local candidates are accepted with a local rate adjustment for those residing within 50 miles
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required prior to start
- Current certifications in BLS (AHA) and NIHSS required
- Minimum of 1 year recent experience required
- Must have prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit
- Level 1 trauma experience required
- Must have previous travel experience; first time travelers are not considered
- Heparin drip titration experience based on PTT required
- All licenses and certifications must be active at the time of consideration
