Description

Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Med/Surg Oncology position requiring an active IL RN license and at least one year of experience.

Responsibilities

Work in the Oncology unit of an acute care, Magnet-designated, Level I trauma hospital
Unit has 24 beds with an average daily census of 24 patients
Day shift schedule with options for 4x12 or 3x12 hour shifts from 7:15 AM to 6:45 PM
Every other weekend is required
Floating within scope to meet unit needs may be required
No on-call responsibilities
Uses Cerner for charting
Patient care involves chemotherapy administration and IV therapy
Local candidates are accepted without a radius restriction
Provide nursing care for oncology patients including administration and monitoring of chemotherapy and supportive therapies
Team environment with support in a Magnet-recognized hospital
First-time travelers are welcome
No cost for parking permit; form completed during orientation
Maximum requested time off ideally no more than 5 days
Discuss block schedule requests directly with manager
Scrubs in any solid color allowed

Requirements

Active IL RN license in hand or in the application process
Minimum of 1 year recent oncology nursing experience required
Chemo certification preferred
Proficiency in chemotherapy skills is required, including administration, post-chemotherapy fluid handling, infusion, IV push, cytotoxic spill management, and abnormal lab recognition
Proficiency in IV therapy/infusion required, such as port access, central line/PICC line care, blood product administration, and starting IVs

“Management” (yes in quotes bc there isn’t much directive provided) is incredibly cliquey, if you’re on the right side of things it’s great! If you are not, they will speak behind your back to other employees, as they want to be in on all of the supposed tea, without worrying about finding out the truth first.
