Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit in Illinois, requiring a current IL RN license and prior neuro and travel nursing experience.
Responsibilities
- Work in a Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit within an acute care hospital setting
- Care for patients with stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and related neuroscience conditions, with some medical overflow
- 54-bed unit with semi-private rooms and nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
- 12-hour night shifts (1900-0700) with every other weekend and holiday rotation
- Nurses float in rotation with staff and may take full assignments on general units
- Use of EPIC EMR system; prior experience recommended
- Heparin titration based on PTT is required; must be comfortable with titratable drips
- Phillips telemetry monitoring system in use; nurses are not required to read their own strips
- Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7
- Orientation includes 2 unit-specific days with an educator and preceptor
- Nursing team consists of charge nurses, house supervisors, and patient care techs to support ratios
- No scrub color requirement, but tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings are permitted while on duty
- Holiday coverage is required every other holiday as part of the rotation
- COVID vaccination is not required for employment at this facility
- Clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles are subject to local pay rates
- No call or standby requirements for this position
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required at time of consideration; pending applications are not accepted
- Minimum 1 year of neuro nursing experience on a dedicated neuro unit
- At least 1 prior travel nursing assignment; first-time travelers are not eligible
- Level 1 trauma experience required
- Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
- Experience with heparin drips strongly required
- Negative drug screen required prior to employment
