Job Description

American Traveler seeks an experienced ICU RN for a night shift travel assignment requiring active ID or compact RN licensure and ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a 10-bed ICU within an acute care hospital setting
  • Patient population includes heart failure, respiratory failure, sepsis, vented patients, GI bleeds, strokes, post-codes, PNA, and post-surgical complications
  • Nurse to patient ratio is typically 1:2
  • RNs are required to titrate drips such as Propofol, Levophed, Dobutamine, vasopressin, Fentanyl, Epinephrine, and Diltiazem
  • Use of vent, high flow, and BiPAP respiratory equipment
  • RNs are responsible for reading cardiac strips without a telemetry tech, using Spacelabs monitoring equipment
  • EMR system used is Epic
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a), every other weekend required, with possibility of additional weekend coverage as needed
  • Block or grouped scheduling is possible but not guaranteed; no specific scheduling requests accepted
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • Floating to telemetry and other ICU units (Meridian, Boise) is expected, maintaining appropriate patient ratios
  • Daily duties include managing complex critically ill patients and titrating life-sustaining drips
  • Charge nurse and administrative supervisor available 24/7; charge does not take patient assignments
  • CNA present on each shift for patient support
  • Hospitalist onsite 24/7; intensivist available via telehealth and respiratory therapy in-house at all times
  • Scrubs may be any color as long as clean and professional
  • Unit-specific orientation provided (1-2 shifts based on experience)
  • Holiday coverage may be required per unit needs
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Previous permanent employees must have a minimum one-year separation before applying as a traveler
  • Local candidates within a 50-mile radius are not eligible

Requirements

  • Active ID or Compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
  • Minimum of 1 year ICU RN experience required
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
  • Ability to titrate critical care drips and manage advanced respiratory support
  • Drivers license required
  • References required: one supervisor reference from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from the last 3 years, including dates and rehire eligibility
  • Must provide permanent address to confirm residence outside the 50-mile facility radius
