Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Intermediate Care (IMC) Telemetry position in Illinois requiring an active IL RN license, ACLS, BLS, and specialized telemetry skills.

Responsibilities

• Work in the IMC/General Telemetry unit within an acute care, Level I trauma, and Magnet-designated hospital
• Patient population includes cardiac, surgical, renal, neurological, and respiratory cases with an average daily census of 38
• Handles patients requiring telemetry monitoring, cardiac procedures, and post-surgical care
• Night shifts available, either 3x12 or 4x12 hours, 18:45 to 07:15
• Required to work every other weekend
• Floating to similar units and potentially affiliate hospitals is required
• Uses Cerner EMR and experience with this system is required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Responsibilities include monitoring telemetry patients, managing complex cardiac and medical surgical care, and supporting a varied patient population
• Team-oriented environment with support for both experienced and first-time travelers
• Scrubs in any solid color are acceptable
• Parking permit provided at no cost upon orientation
• Applicants must be able to work 2 out of 3 major holidays during assignment
• RTO of up to 5 days is strongly preferred; requests over 5 days require facility approval
• Former perm or PRN employees must have a 12-month break before applying as a traveler

Requirements

• Active IL RN license in hand required for consideration
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications from AHA or Red Cross; RQI cards not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of recent IMC, telemetry, or stepdown experience
• Proficient in cardiac monitoring and emergency response, including dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Experience in post-cardiac angiogram, post-MI, cardiac surgery care, and sheath removal
• Skills in feeding tube care, pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure management, IV therapy, and phlebotomy
• Competence with heparin protocols, vasoactive/cardiac drips, and pain management procedures
• Experience with surgical drains, chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, and various oxygen delivery methods
• Experience with wound care, wound vacs, and isolation precautions required
• Cerner charting experience required
• Recent charge nurse, teaching hospital, or Level I trauma experience preferred
