Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position in Illinois requiring strong critical care skills and an active IL RN license.
Responsibilities
- Work in the Neuro ICU within an acute care hospital
- Unit consists of 18 beds with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2
- Patient population includes ventrics, strokes with or without tPA, and post-craniectomy patients
- RNs are responsible for ventriculostomy, acute stroke management, ventilators, arterial and central lines
- Drip titration required for various physician-ordered medications
- Shift is 3x12-hour nights (7p-7a) with rotating weekends and holidays
- Travelers are required to float first to other units, including intermediate (1:3) and general floors (1:4)
- Uses Epic EMR; experience preferred
- Nurses must read and interpret telemetry strips using Phillips monitors
- Respiratory equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen in use
- Primary responsibilities include managing complex neurological and critical care patients
- Nurses are expected to work closely with a 24/7 house supervisor, charge nurses (sometimes with assignment), and dedicated patient care techs
- Unit-specific orientation consists of 20 hours (one 8-hour shift and one 12-hour shift)
- COVID vaccination is not required for employment
- Local candidates within a 50-mile radius are accepted at a different rate
- Holiday coverage is required on a rotating basis
- Negative drug screen required as a condition of employment
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required prior to consideration
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications from AHA required
- Minimum 1 year of recent ICU experience required
- Must have experience with ventriculostomy, NIH Stroke Scale Certification, ventilators, arterial lines, central lines, tPA, and post-craniectomy care
- Ability to titrate critical care drips as ordered by physicians
- Epic charting experience preferred
