Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with a current CA license and strong critical care skills for a night shift assignment.

Responsibilities

• Work in an 8-bed ICU within an acute care hospital
• Care for patients with sepsis, respiratory failure, CHF, alcohol withdrawal, and general medical ICU needs
• Patient ratios are 1:1 to 1:2
• Uses Cerner EMR with experience preferred
• Perform ICU procedures including management of drips and ventilators
• 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) with every other weekend required
• Rotating holiday coverage with permanent staff
• Must float to telemetry, ER, or to a sister facility ICU as needed after orientation
• Orientation includes unit-specific shift and EKG competency exam
• Navy scrubs required
• ICU nurses expected to read and interpret cardiac monitors; monitor techs support but nurse interpretation required
• Floor orientation provided on first shift
• RT is available 24/7; pharmacy is on call after hours
• Hospitalist or intensivist on call during after hours
• No nurse aides present on unit
• First to float on assigned weekends
• Returning candidates must not have worked for the health system in the past year (except PRN through outside agency)
• Must pass sterile technique test for Foley and central line dressing changes during orientation
• Candidates failing required clinical skills exams on two attempts may be ineligible for six months

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of recent ICU nursing experience required
• Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS required
• Must provide two professional references: one supervisor within past 12 months and one peer or supervisor within past three years
• Must submit copy of driver’s license with application
• Ability to read and interpret EKG strips required
• Must pass basic EKG competency exam upon orientation
• Travel nursing experience preferred
