Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift ICU position requiring at least 2 years of critical care experience and strong EKG skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work in an acute care ICU setting with adult medical-surgical, cardio, and neuro patient populations
  • Unit includes 12-bed CVICU, 8-bed COVID ICU, 8-bed MS ICU, and a 16-bed PCU
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:1-2 in ICU based on acuity and staffing, and 1:3-4 in the PCU
  • Care for a wide variety of high-acuity cases including COVID, post-surgical, ARF, DKA, EVD, CRRT, cardiac procedures and devices such as Impella, TAVR, STEMI, VAD, IABP, and more
  • Required to titrate all critical care drips including pressors, paralytics, sedatives, anti-arrhythmics, and anticoagulants
  • Uses Cerner EMR and Nihon Khoden telemetry monitors; RNs read their own strips
  • Night shifts are primarily 12 hours, with schedules made 4 weeks in advance
  • Four weekend night shifts per pay period are required
  • Floats within critical care service line, including PCU and MST units as needed
  • May be placed on call for low census approximately once every 6 weeks, but not routinely
  • No nurse aides on unit; staff supported by 24/7 intensivists and house supervisor
  • RNs are responsible for full-spectrum ICU care, including interpretation of ABGs and management of complex critical care cases
  • Team support includes 24/7 intensivists, house supervisor, and buddy/mentor shifts during orientation
  • Training includes 8 hours of hospital orientation and up to two 12-hour mentored shifts
  • First to float among travelers and core staff
  • Professional scrub attire required—any color accepted except camo; transitioning to navy color in October
  • Must work at least one winter holiday and the eve of another
  • Standard sterile technique and safety testing completed during orientation
  • Candidates must provide a driver's license for address verification
  • Two professional references required for consideration: one supervisor from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the past three years

Requirements

  • Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to contract signing (minimum 80% score within two attempts)
  • Strong EKG interpretation skills required
  • Experience with titrating critical care drips, ventilator weaning and troubleshooting, and advanced cardiac device management preferred
  • Ability to monitor and interpret telemetry independently
  • Cannot have been employed (full time, part time, or PRN) at any facility affiliated with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year
  • Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
