Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac/Neuro Med/Surg Tele position requiring an active IN or compact RN license and proficiency in telemetry and neuro assessments.

Responsibilities

• Work in a blended Cardiac/Neuro Med/Surg Tele unit with 19 beds, including 8 Stepdown beds
• Patient population includes post-cardiac procedures, arrhythmias, heart failure, STEMI/NSTEMI, stroke, seizures, detox/CIWA, sepsis, DKA, and respiratory distress
• Typical patient ratio is 1:5-6 on days; Charge Nurse will take patients; Stepdown RNs care for MS/T patients
• Shift is 12-hour days (6:30-7) with a weekend block option
• Required to work three weekends in every six-week schedule and every other holiday
• First to float within skillset, with possible float to Newburgh (IN) and Henderson (KY) campuses; two hours notice given for cross-campus float
• No on-call or call-back required
• EMR is Epic; recent experience required and must complete a checkoff class
• Care for a diverse cardiac and neuro patient population, with responsibilities including assessment, intervention, and management of complex cases
• May be required to precept students and new hires as part of a teaching hospital
• Work in a unit with strong leadership and low turnover
• Navy blue scrubs required; no logos from competing health systems or agencies allowed
• Three call-ins may result in termination
• COVID-19 vaccine not required at this time, subject to change
• Holiday coverage is required according to rotation
• First-time travelers are not specified; please inquire if you have less experience

Requirements

• Active IN or Compact RN license required
• Current AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of Cardiac/Neuro MS/T experience plus 1 travel contract, or 5 years Cardiac/Neuro MS/T experience if no travel contracts
• Recent Epic charting experience required
• Must demonstrate skills in telemetry, 12-lead EKG interpretation, post heart cath care, Heparin administration, NIHSS and dysphagia screening, strong neuro assessment, sepsis care, chest tubes, CPAP/Optiflow, and IV insertion
• Ability to pass required telemetry tests
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
• Must reside more than 40 miles from the facility
