Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring a GA or compact RN license and strong med/tele skills.

Responsibilities

  • Position is in a hospital setting with Level 1 Trauma and teaching designation
  • Care is provided on med/surg and telemetry units with a float pool requirement across all med/tele units
  • Typical patient ratio is 1:4-6 RN, with LPN and CNA support as needed
  • Day shifts are 12 hours long, from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with a 36-hour weekly option
  • Weekend rotation is 3 weekends within a 6-week schedule
  • Holiday coverage required including select dates for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year holidays
  • No on-call or call back responsibilities
  • EMR is Epic; Alaris pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Philips monitors are used
  • Role involves caring for diverse inpatient med/surg and telemetry populations
  • Daily responsibilities include hands-on skill utilization such as CVL draws and common drip management
  • CNA, unit secretary, charge nurse, resource nurse, PICC team, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist support are available
  • Initial orientation includes one day facility onboarding with educational modules and two days departmental orientation
  • RN scrub color is navy
  • Free parking available on campus, with paid parking options in decks
  • Unit culture is described as busy and highly team-oriented

Requirements

  • Active GA or compact RN license required
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent med/surg telemetry RN experience required
  • BLS certification required
  • ACLS certification preferred; must pass EKG competency exam during onboarding
  • Experience with trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and glucometer use required
  • Experience administering insulin and heparin drips, and titrating drips to HR
  • Comfortable floating to all med/surg and tele units as needed
