Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position with 12-hour day shifts and floating to all med/surg and telemetry units.

Responsibilities

Work in a large teaching hospital with Level 1 trauma designation
Med/surg and telemetry unit assignments with patient ratios of 1:4-6
12-hour day shifts (7A-7P) with a 36-hour workweek option
Required to work 3 weekends within a 6-week schedule
Holiday shifts required on selected major holidays
Floating required to all med/surg and telemetry units in the hospital
Patient population includes a mix of adult inpatient med/surg and telemetry cases
Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis for medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
No on-call or call-back requirements
Support from CNAs, unit secretary, charge nurse, resource nurse, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist teams
RNs draw labs off CVLs, while most phlebotomy is lab-collected
PICC team available for specialized IV access
Department uses navy scrubs for RNs
Free parking available around campus with optional paid parking decks
Busy, team-oriented unit culture
Orientation includes one day of general education and two days of departmental training
First-time travelers are accepted for this position

Requirements

Active GA or compact RN license required
Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg Tele RN experience
BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
Successful completion of an EKG competency exam during onboarding
Experience with trach care, chest tube management, starting PIVs, and glucometer use
Proficiency with insulin drips, heparin drips, and titrating drips to heart rate
