Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring a GA or compact RN license and strong Med/Tele skills.
Responsibilities
- Position is located in a Level 1 trauma, teaching hospital setting
- Work on various Med/Surg Telemetry units with 20-36 beds per unit
- Patient ratios for RNs are generally 1:4-6
- Covers a broad inpatient Med/Surg Telemetry adult population
- Night shifts, 12-hour schedule from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
- Required to float to all Med/Surg and Telemetry units as needed
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
- No on-call or call back requirements
- Must work at least one shift on 11/27 or 11/28, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1 for holidays
- Primary responsibilities include delivering nursing care for adult Med/Surg Telemetry patients, monitoring cardiac and medical conditions, and managing specialized drips
- Support staff includes CNAs, a unit secretary, charge nurse, resource nurses, a PICC team, and 24/7 coverage from RTs, hospitalists, and intensivists
- Central telemetry unit available for patient monitoring
- One day of general orientation followed by two days of departmental orientation
- Navy scrubs required for RNs
- Team-oriented, busy unit culture
- Free parking available around campus, with an option for paid parking in decks
- First-time travelers will be considered
Requirements
- Active GA or compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg Tele RN experience required
- BLS certification required
- ACLS certification preferred; EKG competency exam required during onboarding
- Experience with trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucometers, and common drips such as insulin and heparin
- Proficient in Epic EMR charting
- Willingness to float to all Med/Surg and Telemetry units
