Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN with at least two years of Med/Surg Telemetry experience and a GA or compact license for a night shift position.

Responsibilities

Work in hospital med/surg telemetry units with Level 1 trauma designation and teaching hospital environment
12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
Average patient ratios of 1:4-6 for RNs
Assigned to a float pool and required to float to all med/surg telemetry units as needed
All Med/Surg units have 20-36 beds
Patient population includes a variety of medical-surgical and telemetry cases
Required to work assigned holidays: one of 11/27 or 11/28, one of 12/24 or 12/25, and one of 12/31 or 1/1
No on-call or call-back responsibilities
EMR system is Epic; experience preferred but not required
First-time travelers are welcome to apply
Strong support provided by CNAs, unit secretary (evening and night coverage), charge nurse, resource nurses, 24/7 RT and hospitalist, and central telemetry tech
RNs are responsible for drawing blood from central lines; phlebotomy otherwise performed by lab staff
Orientation includes one day facility and educational modules, plus two days department-based training
Navy scrubs are required for RNs

Busy, team-oriented unit culture

Requirements

Active GA or compact RN license
Minimum of 2 years of recent Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience
Current BLS certification required
ACLS certification preferred; EKG competency exam required during onboarding
Proficiency with trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and glucometer use
Experience with insulin and heparin drips and titrating drips to heart rate
Epic EMR experience preferred
