Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN with at least two years of Med/Surg Telemetry experience and a GA or compact license for a night shift position.

Responsibilities

  • Work in hospital med/surg telemetry units with Level 1 trauma designation and teaching hospital environment
  • 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
  • Average patient ratios of 1:4-6 for RNs
  • Assigned to a float pool and required to float to all med/surg telemetry units as needed
  • All Med/Surg units have 20-36 beds
  • Patient population includes a variety of medical-surgical and telemetry cases
  • Required to work assigned holidays: one of 11/27 or 11/28, one of 12/24 or 12/25, and one of 12/31 or 1/1
  • No on-call or call-back responsibilities
  • EMR system is Epic; experience preferred but not required
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Strong support provided by CNAs, unit secretary (evening and night coverage), charge nurse, resource nurses, 24/7 RT and hospitalist, and central telemetry tech
  • RNs are responsible for drawing blood from central lines; phlebotomy otherwise performed by lab staff
  • Orientation includes one day facility and educational modules, plus two days department-based training
  • Navy scrubs are required for RNs
  • Free parking is available across campus with optional paid parking decks
  • Busy, team-oriented unit culture

Requirements

  • Active GA or compact RN license
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience
  • Current BLS certification required
  • ACLS certification preferred; EKG competency exam required during onboarding
  • Proficiency with trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and glucometer use
  • Experience with insulin and heparin drips and titrating drips to heart rate
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
