Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring a GA or compact RN license and strong med/telemetry skills.

Responsibilities

Hospital-based position in a Level 1 Trauma and teaching environment
Works on Med/Surg Tele units with float pool coverage across all inpatient med/telemetry units
Typical patient ratios are RN 1:4-6 and LPN 1:4-6
Patients include a broad range of med/surg and telemetry cases, including cardiac monitoring
Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis med dispensing, Phillips monitors, VS3 vital sign monitors, and Nova Glucose Stat Strips
Central telemetry monitoring unit supports all tele patients
12-hour night shifts from 7P-7A
Must work select holidays: either 11/27 or 11/28, and 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1
No on-call required
First-time travelers will be considered for this position
Float pool nurses must be able to work on all hospital med/surg telemetry units as needed
Support staff includes CNAs, unit secretary, charge nurse, discharge nurses, resource team, 24/7 respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist
Phlebotomy is primarily performed by lab, but RNs draw off CVLs
Orientation includes 1 day of modules and 2 days of departmental training
Navy blue scrubs required for RNs
Busy, team-oriented unit culture

Requirements

Active GA or compact RN license required
Minimum 2 years of recent med/surg telemetry RN experience required
BLS certification required
Strong skills in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucometer use, and administration of insulin and heparin drips
Must pass EKG competency exam during onboarding
Epic EMR experience preferred
