Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU role in Illinois requiring at least 2 years of recent CVICU experience and active IL RN license.
Responsibilities
- Work in an Adult Cardiac Intermediate (CVICU/Stepdown) Unit within a Level 1 Trauma acute care setting
- 20-bed unit with all private, monitored rooms
- Patients include post-ICU stepdown, TAVR, ablations, Watchman, Micra, MitraClip, heart failure, ventilated and trached patients, and overflow from other stepdowns including COVID cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratios range from 1:3, up to 1:4 depending on acuity
- RNs responsible for titrating a variety of drips including dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, epinephrine, vasopressin, cleviprex, propofol, fentanyl, versed, insulin, heparin, and esmolol
- Utilizes Swan Ganz, external pacemakers, PICCs, midlines, CVCs, swans, and arterial lines
- All patients monitored on the Philips system; RNs expected to interpret strips
- Uses EPIC EMR system
- 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a), with rotating weekends and holidays
- Floating required to all levels of care including ICU, with travelers expected to take a full assignment
- Charge nurses and house supervisors are on shift 24/7 and may take assignments
- Patient care techs support the unit with ratios of 1:12-15 depending on staffing
- Ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flow equipment are in use, with vented patients being trached
- RNs are expected to provide advanced cardiovascular critical care and float to the ICU as needed
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, teamwork, and organizational skills required
- Unit-specific orientation includes one day on the unit and two days with a preceptor
- Compassion, motivation, time management, and a positive attitude are valued
- Scrubs must be clean, professional, and appropriately fitting; no color requirement and scrubs are not provided
- Holiday coverage is every other holiday
- First time travelers are not specified; candidates must be able to adapt quickly without extensive onboarding
- Local candidates within 50 miles are eligible at a local pay rate; no set radius rule
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of recent experience in a CVICU or Cardiac ICU setting
- Current BLS (AHA) certification required; ACLS preferred; CCRN or PCCN a plus
- Demonstrated ability to self-manage CVICU/stepdown/ICU patient populations and unit equipment with minimal supervision
- Experience with titrating multiple critical care drips and interpreting cardiac telemetry strips
- Ability to float to ICU and provide full care assignments
- Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
